The Incan Grain

Grains make up a main staple of many people’s diets all around the world. Whether it is in the form of bread, rice, or something else, we find ourselves eating these things regularly. Too often, however, they are a larger portion of our intake than they ought to be. There has to be an alternative to these grains, right? Something that people can eat as a substitute that has more value.

Some health food lovers are turning to the past and looking to the grain that supported the Incan empire, quinoa. While it was once holy to the Incan people, this grain is unique in its health properties and can provide a well-rounded supplement to a person’s diet today. Unlike other similar grains, quinoa has a much higher protein content. This increased protein makes a healthy addition to a meal, particularly for vegetarians, and others seeking to increase their protein. Quinoa is also special in that it contains a full set of amino acids, making it a complete protein. Protein sources in any case should be diversified and the addition of quinoa can add one more option to your diet.

But, the health benefits of quinoa would mean very little if it did not taste good. After all, what good are nutrients if they aren’t eaten? Luckily, however, quinoa has a simple, delicious, and unique flavor. It is slightly nuttier than rice, but it is often served in the same way. Quinoa comes in a variety of colors – black, red, and white. All of which taste and cook similarly. It can be eaten alone as a side dish, or combined with other things to make a warm and hearty pilaf. Quinoa can even be good cold, as a salad. However you like it, this grain can add something new and healthy to your diet.

Echinacea: An Age Old Remedy

Tea is about as simple a drink as can be – steep some leaves in hot water for a minutes and you’ve got it, a delicious warm beverage. But, the effects of some teas can be so much more complex than their easy preparation would lead you to believe. Echinacea, for example, is an ingredient in many teas that has a variety of health benefits.

Long used as a form of alternative medicine and as a folk remedy, echinacea has been in the sights of healers for generations. Among Native Americans and early American settlers, it was used as a general remedy for many afflictions, including as a cure for rattlesnake bites. While the claims that it countered the venomous bite of the rattler where never substantiated, echinacea is still a popular tool among practitioners of herbal medicine.

The roots and plant system of this purple flower are taken and prepared into a medicine that is designed to help boost immune support and fight infection. This means that it is primarily used when battling a common cold, or the flu. It is also used to fight other infections because of its ability to kill viruses and bacteria that cause disease. Its echinacein content also makes it effective against a variety of illnesses due to its ability to impede an enzyme that germs use to break down human tissue. In order to support immune functions, echinacea is believed to increase the body’s support of T-cells.

This wonderful plant has also been used to help the body during radiation treatment, when fighting a yeast infection, trying to heal a cut or sore, or dealing with arthritis. While still important to consult a physician before trying out a new medication, echinacea is worth asking about. In conjunction with other medication it may be just what you need to give yourself an extra boost.

A Brief History of Acupuncture

There are not many of forms of ancient medicine as detailed and complex as traditional Chinese medicine. It includes many different treatment methods ranging from herbal remedies to the use of obscure animal parts. While often overshadowed by the medical advances of today, some traditional Chinese medicine practices can still be found in use now, in modern times. One such type of treatment is acupuncture. While widely contested, the practice of acupuncture is still very prevalent in the world and has a long and rich history.

Acupuncture is the process of piercing the skin with a needle at certain key points of the body to receive a desired effect. Existing in history thousands of years back (just how many thousands is a point of contention), traditional acupuncture predates medicine as we now know it. As such, it is based around the idea of two opposing energies that flow throughout the body and it is designed to help keep these energies in harmonious balance. These energies, or Qi, were thought to travel very distinct paths through the human body, which in traditional Chinese medicine are called meridians. Through the calculated pinpointing (quite literally) of these meridians, acupuncture aims to alleviate a variety of symptoms.

Though its practice rose and fell several times throughout Chinese history, the knowledge of acupuncture was retained and has, in relatively recent times, spread from China to many different parts of the world. Now, acupuncture has effectively permeated many cultures and is regularly used in conjunction with other medical practices. It can be found in many clinics working in tandem with more modern techniques. These days, acupuncture is often practiced by licensed professionals and is taught in several locations. It is a well-known form of alternative medicine, and one that people seek out for a wide variety of ailments all over the world.

Less Talked About Alternative Medicine Approaches

Most people have heard about or read about homeopathic medicine, naturopathic medicine, and herbal remedies; but how much do you know about other alternative medicine practices?

Anthroposophical medicine was developed from the work of Rudolf Steiner in the early 1920s. It is an approach to medicine in which the emphasis is on focusing on factors that promote human health and wellbeing rather than on the cause of a disease. Anthroposophical medicine incorporates a more holistic approach to medicine. It is the philosophy of those who practice anthroposophical medicine that a disease is an imbalance of the biological organism, and their approach is to balance it out through treatment strategies that incorporate healing the whole body, including the psychological or emotional body.

Another form of alternative medicine is craniosacral therapy. Craniosacral therapy was first created by Dr. John Upledger, an Osteopathic physician, in 1970. This form of therapy is a gentle hands-on method of promoting the body’s own healing abilities. The practitioner places their hands on the patient and is able to tune in to what they call the craniosacral rhythm of the individual’s body. They then begin to gently work with gentle manipulation of the spine, cranial structures, sacrum, and interconnected membranes and tissues to assist in alleviating pain and illness while increasing energy and improving circulation. Craniosacral therapy is used by osteopathic physicians, massage therapists, chiropractors, and naturopathic practitioners.

Reflexology is another form of alternative medicine which is used to treat the body through massage and pressure placed to the hands and feet with specific hand, thumb, and finger techniques without the use of oils or lotions. Reflexologists believe that targeting specific zones of the hands and feet can bring about physical changes in the body to assist the healing process. It is the belief of reflexologist as well that the reflexes in our hands and feet directly correspond to every part, organ and gland of our body.

Can Homeopathic Therapy Help with Smoking Cessation Efforts?

The theory behind holistic therapy is that the mind, body, and spirit are all connected, and all must be treated in order for a cure to be effected. Because smoking produces both physical and psychological responses, it is possible that homeopathic therapies may be helpful when one is trying to quit smoking.

Alternative medicine can take on many forms, including dietary changes, yoga and other relaxation methods, body cleansing treatments such as colonics, and biofeedback. Any or all of these can be used in homeopathic treatment, with some being rejected in favor of those which seem to be producing more positive results.

The end result of homeopathic therapy is, of course, the healing, or at least marked improvement of, the mind, body, and soul. Once this is achieved, then the ability to quit smoking, taking drugs, or doing whatever was being done to cause physical problems can surface.

Whether or not homeopathic therapy does work may depend on whether or not one believes it can or will produce results. Some people do not place much confidence in this treatment method, and feel it is just a bunch of “New Age mumbo-jumbo.” For them, there may be little if any results. Others may embrace it wholeheartedly, showing tremendous improvement.

For the “non-believers,” other conventional treatments are available for smoking cessation, such as nicotine patches, smoking cessation medication, or even the use of electronic cigarettes (either those which deliver only a small amount of nicotine liquid or none at all may prove to be more effective). The “believers” may not need any of the things mentioned above.

So, to answer the question in the title, yes, homeopathic therapy can help if one believes it will. So, too, will conventional treatments, for the same reasons. It all comes down to how badly one wants to achieve something, such as smoking cessation.

What Matters To Me In A New Computer

I was waiting for driver updates recently when I realized that I would probably be better off upgrading my computer as a whole. It wasn’t that there was anything wrong with the updates, it’s just that my computer had given me a lot of good use but I realized that there was just more I could be getting out of the computer.

So I started comparison shopping just to make sure that I got the right one but i realized something pretty quickly when it came to my computer: I was shopping for the wrong things. There were things I used to be worried about a few years ago that I wasn’t worried about anymore.

I decided that the first thing I needed to worry about was the durability of the computer. Without a durable computer nothing else really mattered. I wasn’t like some of my friends that can afford to buy a new computer when they felt like it. I needed mine to last me for at least three or four years. For that I was going to have to get smart and get something with the best rating for parts.

I wasn’t concerned about the audio or video capabilities either. These computers nowadays can all do pretty much the same thing. For those that can do playback better is a good thing for the people who use it but I watch my movies on my television and listen to my music on my MP3 player. I wasn’t about to say no to a good computer for those reasons.

The last thing I looked it was the warranties available to me. I need these warranties because if my computer breaks I need someone who will guarantee to fix it for me. These are the things that now matter to me.

Getting the word out there for such a switch is easy when it comes to a younger audience connected to the Internet, but what do you do if you wish to spread that word to the elderly?

There are many natural remedies that are believed to cure conditions that are common in the elderly such as arthritis, back pain and intestinal problems. The problem is that many elderly people do not know about these natural treatments and therefore do not give them a try.

That is why many people who practice natural healing are trying to get the message to the many elderly people who could benefit from natural healing treatments. Here are some of the ways that people are reaching out to the elderly to spread the word on natural healing.

Alternative Pain Management through Massage

One of the best ways to remain free from pain is to incorporate regular massages into your weekly or monthly routine. Massage is an ancient form of touch that was called the art of medicinal rubbing by the great Hippocrates of Greece. Hippocrates was the inspiration for the Hippocratic Oath, the oath doctors take before being able to practice medicine.

The art of massage that was once heralded in Ancient Greece and is noted of in several significant Chinese, Japanese, and Egyptian texts was lost for a long period of time after those great civilizations disappeared. It did not reappear until the Renaissance. It arrived at its current resurgence in the 1970s when athletes made it mainstream.

There are various forms of massage, but the most common are the Swedish form and the deep-tissue massage. Swedish massage is the original modern massage form and continues to be the basis of modern sports massage. It uses circular movements, kneading, and long strokes to alleviate pain.

Deep-tissue massage is regarded very similarly to Swedish massage; however, it uses bolder strokes to help remove knots and tension spots. Some people who experience this massage say there is some pain, due to the deep-kneading technique. Even so, many of the best pain management Palm Beach offices use the technique.

Massage is supposed to stimulate various body systems, including the circulatory system and the lymph glands. When massage is done right, it is thought to remove all the toxins from the lymph glands, as well as from muscle tissue. That is why, when getting a massage, it is very important that you drink a large amount of water afterward to flush out the toxins loosened by the massage.

If you’ve been struggling with pain, you may want to sign up for the next available massage.

Prescription Drug Rehab and Homeopathic Remedies

Prescription drugs aren’t for everyone. For someone who has an addictive personality, they can be exceedingly dangerous. They lead to instances of prescription drug rehab each and every year – and some people struggle to get clean for the rest of their lives. While some conditions absolutely require a prescription medication, there are many other problems that can be treated with homeopathy and natural remedies. Unless it’s a life-threatening emergency, you might want to talk to a natural medicine practitioner before you start on a regime of prescription medication that you’ll likely never be able to come off of.

Most natural remedies have no side effects. Others have very few. In general, these kinds of treatments don’t have the serious side effects that prescription drugs have. With prescriptions, the list of side effects that could occur are often far worse than the disease or condition itself. Of course, not everyone experiences these side effects – but why would you want to take something that could cause those kinds of problems if you don’t absolutely have to? Some people fear natural medicine, or they don’t believe in it. If you go to a trusted source, though, it’s very safe and can be highly effective.

Natural substances have been used for medicinal purposes since ancient times, often with a lot of success. Even science and the medical community now realize that there are some natural medicines that do appear to have healing properties. When used correctly, these natural options are very safe. Like anything else, they can be dangerous if they aren’t consumed in the proper dose. Always get a professional to help you if you’re considering natural medicine, so you don’t risk using the wrong thing or getting an incorrect amount.
